Quantal-response equilibrium models of the ultimatum bargaining game
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper investigates the implications of normaland extensive-form quantal response equilibrium (QRE) models (McKelvey and Palfrey, 1995, Games and Economic Behavior; 1998, Experimental Economics) in the ultimatum bargaining game, assuming that players maximize expected monetary payo ̄ s. It is shown that normal-form QRE can select a non-sequential equilibrium, and that the selection depends crucially on the noise structure. The normal-form QRE describes the main qualitative features of experimental subjects' behavior better than extensiveform QRE even in experiments with extensive-form games. Quantal Response Equilibria of Ultimatum Bargaining Games
This paper applies quantal response equilibrium (QRE) models (McKelvey and Palfrey, 1995, Games and Economic Behavior) to ultimatum bargaining games. When the strategy space is discrete, as the noise vanishes, the QRE of the normal-form representation converges to a Nash equilibrium in which an equilibrium o er is between 0 and a half of the pie while the QRE of the extensive-form representatio...
متن کاملAn Experimental Analysis of an Envy-Free Auction
Economic concerns for equity have motivated game theorists to study envy-free mechanisms. Though not incentive compatible, these mechanisms implement in Nash equilibria efficient allocations at which no agent prefers the consumption of any other agent to their own. In experimental allocation decisions between two players, an envy-free first-price auction achieves similar efficiency and far grea...
متن کاملA Model of Bargaining with Incomplete Information
We study the equilibrium outcomes of two-person bargaining problems in which each party has “outside option” known only to himself. We examin two game forms, a sequential-move game and a simulteneous-move game. In this context we discuss the failure to reach agreements and the loss of efficiency thereof. Invoking the analogy between the sequentialmove game and the familiar ultimatum game we als...
متن کاملVehicle Routing Problem in Competitive Environment: Two-Person Nonzero Sum Game Approach
Vehicle routing problem is one of the most important issues in transportation. Among VRP problems, the competitive VRP is more important because there is a tough competition between distributors and retailers. In this study we introduced new method for VRP in competitive environment. In these methods Two-Person Nonzero Sum games are defined to choose equilibrium solution. Therefore, revenue giv...
متن کاملChoices in an Interdependent Economic Environment: Inequity Aversion and Bargaining Games
Experimental economics has revealed an underlying tension between preferences for fairness and the purely self-interested behavior assumed throughout economic theory. Though many models attempt to explain observed behavior that is inconsistent with theory, the motivations behind such deviations from theoretic equilibrium are still largely unknown. ! This paper investigates preferences for fairn...
